Bourgeois Spider Sells; Street Gallery; Auction Fees: Art Buzz
PARIS - May 30. A four-foot high spider by Louise Bourgeois sold for a record 2.9 million euros ($4.5 million) with fees at Christies in Paris. The 2003 metal-and-fabric sculpture by Bourgeois, 96, was purchased by a European collector on the telephone against competition from three other bidders on May 27. It had been given a 1.8 to 2.5 million euro estimate. Bourgeois was already the most expensive living female artist.
