Guy and Michele Beddington in collaboration with with Vincent Vlasblom, display in their gallery and gardens, respectively, canvasses and installations by the artist Marcel Pinas, born in Surinam in 1971.

A frequent exhibitor in French and Dutch Guiana, Brasil, the Carribean,the USA and more recently in Europe, Marcel Pinas caught the eye of Marcel Pinas, the well known Dutch patron of the arts and collector who brought him to Amsterdam, where he is presently artist in residence at the Rijksakademie.

The title of the exhibition' Kibri a Kulturu' or 'Preserve our Culture', stresses the artist's intense conviction of bringing alive again the ancient culture and traditions of his people, the'N'Dyuka', which the civil war in Surinam had almost entirely eradicated.

His canvasses explode with exotic primary colours, combining sections of textile, pictural motifs and esoteric symbols, gloriously decorative and,in conjunction with this 'Afaka' script, serving also on a practical level as a means of communication between his people.

Extraordinary Installations- a horizontal rainbow of myriad textile-clad bottles, totems, braziers and wall displays- a cascade of oil lamps, an archway of sparkling, slowly revolving spoons, an original array of simple catapults, surprising and optmistic weaponry with which to confront the twenty-first century!
